Hagen Schulte and Blake Hohaia Shine In Warriors’ Debut

Two Utah Warriors were responsible for the 19 points that were put onto the board last Sunday against Rugby ATL in the Warriors’ first regular season match of 2020.

HAGEN SCHULTE

Warriors’ fly-half Hagen Schulte went a perfect 4/4 at the posts, putting up 12 points in penalty kicks alone. Schulte also added 2 additional points to his name by converting a try in the first half. With a solid outing of 14 points in his 2020 debut, the fly-half from Christchurch, New Zealand looks to keep the momentum going heading deeper into the 2020 season. The experience playing at top levels in the UK with the Glasgow Warriors and also representing Germany was apparent in the way Schulte contributed points to the scoreboard.

FIRST TRY

The first try of the season was dotted down by the Kaitaia, New Zealand home grown talent and Warriors’ center, Blake Hohaia. The first try of the season also coincided with Hohaia’s first cap as a Warrior. The Kaitaia, New Zealand native rumbled through the line after receiving a quick feed from scrum-half captain Dwayne Polataivao. The contribution through Hohaia's experience playing for Wanganui and Taranaki Rugby, and most recently playing for Northland in the Mitre10 is proving to a great asset in our 2020 campaign in Major League Rugby.

“Our forwards are doing well, coming around the corner getting gain line carries,” Hohaia explained while rewatching the moments before his first try. “Tyler is like, ‘Mate, there’s no more forwards,’ so I just run a hole, and that’s our first try of the season.”

These two Warriors call New Zealand home, but the beauty in Warriors’ rugby is the diversity of cultures coming together to form a brotherhood as a team.
